Deconstructing modern food systems: globalization, industrialization and agribusiness
Food Aid Policy
Nathan Morrow
"Food Aid is an inappropriate instrument for achieving long-term Development....
It is necessary to de-link food aid in-kind from agricultural production and markets at home (untying of aid) and support the promotion of local, regional and triangular purchase of food – preferably from surplus producing areas in the region or other Southern producers"

"In the future, rural policy will be increasingly affected by changing environmental pressures regarding energy, water and the need to preserve rural areas as the reserve for cities, rather than places deserving development in their own right. These pressures will be tempered in the EU by broader values regarding territorial equality and social inclusion. In the US, where attachment to place is lower and marke competitiveness is paramount, broader rural development policy is less likely to receive significant attention"
Global Food Security: challenges, choices and power

"The food system nowadays is disfunctional. Instead of food security we should shift to the concept of Food Sovereignty, which is the right of people to define their own agricultural and food system...In the 90's the global food system rools changed: excess of rules and regulations (intellectual property rights), global players (WTO) and financial innovations driven by short term profit. It is now necessary to recognize leaverage points, changing paradigms to an ethical, ecological, fair and just food system"
